The tree is up.
The boys are back. (The big one never went away....)
My mother started our nutcracker collection in the mid-1980's with one of the twins on the mantel (#2 or #10) and later with #5, #6, and #8. The others came from estate/garage sales and TJMaxx. They're all German.
I try not to acquire more Christmas decorations, but if I come across German nutcrackers at good prices I will indulge.
The November stash report shows that I didn't indulge much compared to earlier this year. Fabric IN: 60-1/4 yards, $80, average $1.32 per yard. Fabric OUT: 32-1/8. YTD fabric IN: 1506.75 yards, $2939.50, average $1.95 per yard. YTD fabric OUT: 810-5/8 yards.
Here are parts one and two of Old Town, the Quiltville mystery. New clues drop every Friday.
Goals for December: (1) quilt two flimsies, (2) keep up with the Old Town mystery clues, and (3) find new homes for some of the yardage.
This week's reading:
Amy Stewart interviewed fifty people from all over the world who are passionate about trees. And not just trees in general but specific aspects. There's the artist who has grafted forty different fruit cultivars onto one tree (Syracuse, NY), a biochemist who cultivates bonsai in Mexico, the man who is introducing trees to his native Greenland (rising temperatures mean that some trees can survive in that cold, harsh climate). Some have turned their yards into forests with multiple specimens. Another man has reclaimed the farm that his enslaved ancestors once worked. There are professionals (botanists, arborists) and amateurs. Pines, maples, oaks, camellias, mulberries, apples, redwoods -- portecting, preserving, and promoting.
Stewart's artwork enhances the text. Informative and thoroughly charming.
Linking up with OMG December/Stories from the Sewing Room Design Wall Monday Oh Scrap! Sew and Tell (Thanks for the shout-out, Melva!)
Love seeing your Christmas tree and nutcrackers! I like your way of organizing for the mystery quilt. Looks like you are already doing a good job of keeping up!

ReplyDeleteYou have a most impressive collection of nutcrackers but I have to say I'll leave you to them because quite honestly most of them give me the creeps. I remember as a child being afraid of their big teeth.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is the third one I have seen tonight with Nutcrackers. I know my daughter has a collection of them but I'm not sure how many. I like seeing them, and there are so many different ones.
ReplyDeleteThose nutcrackers are so cool! I think my favorite is the chef one (2nd photo). Your tree looks wonderful too. That book sound so good! I put it on my Amazon wish list! Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteYou are keeping up with both the holiday and the BH mystery way better than I am. Your fabric stats are pretty awesome. Thank you for the book review, I needed a fun book for My Guy, that one would be right up his alley.
