Weekly update: holiday events, UFOs out and in, OT part 3, and the new flimsy

 Holiday events are underway!

Luncheons Tuesday (Zion Woman's Club) and Saturday (Lake County Women's Coalition), both at the same local restaurant.***  I was hostess for ZWC and brought my vintage Christmas tablecloths to decorate (we were in one of the restaurant's small rooms) but I was so busy presiding that I didn't get a good picture. (***Local as in four-tenths of a mile from my house!)

On Friday we joined friends Bill and Debbie for dinner before going to the high school performing arts center  We all enjoyed the high school's holiday show by the combined music and drama departments.

It was warm (46!) and sunny on Sunday, but instead of a walk we were in the car delivering Rotary citrus to our customers from Winthrop Harbor to Zion to Wadsworth to Gurnee to Lake Forest!   The club will make its income target ($2000) for local projects.

The quilt guild holiday dinner was Wednesday.  There are many new members and lots of new energy in the group.

On the tree:  ornament exchange. On the table:  gift box swap.

The guild provided 1-yard pieces of batik to each person.  We played "Fold It – Snip It – Rip It – Drop It – Pass It" (Complete instructions here.)

These are the pieces I ended up with.

We met in the huge meeting room on the lower level of a bank.  (It's a great facility and they don't charge.)

UFOs are arrayed in the foreground for the second annual UFO raffle.  Everyone got five free tickets and could buy more (12 for $5).

I brought 3 UFOs, two of which I won last year.   I bought $10 in tickets.  Look what I won!

The three plastic bins came from a quilter's downsizing (donated to the guild).   Lots of 1", 2", 2-1/2", and 3" squares, many strips, and some FQs.  A dozen spools of thread, too. By weight, 50 yards.  Such potential!

I did spend time in the studio.

Old Town Part 3 joins Parts 1 and 2, each in a Snapware box.

And . . . Black Diamond Strings is a flimsy!

7 yards by weight, not counting the foundations.

Another busy week ahead!

  1. Nice job on your string quilt. I keep considering starting one. Maybe after the Camping Journal Quilt is complete... I'll be ready for something different to travel with. ;) Thank you for sharing in my Sew & Tell party.

  2. Sounds like you've been a busy girl! It seems that this time of year it gets really busy. Our quilt guild is supposed to have their Christmas luncheon today but it's freezing rain so it doesn't look like it's going to be a go. I didn't plan on going anyway so I'm more than happy to stay home.
Love your Black Diamond Strings quilt - it will make someone very happy.

  5. Looks like you've had lots of fun holiday activities to go to this week! I think my local quilt group would have fun with the Fold It, Snip It activity. I should suggest it for a meeting next year. Your string quilt is a beautiful!

  6. I like that horizontal setting of the diamonds. Idee fixe would have me setting them vertically, long side up and down. Thanks for kicking me out of that box!
