It came just in the (Saint) nick of time. I had enough batting left for Black Diamond Strings without resorting to making a frankenbatt.
I auditioned several prints for the backing before I remembered this one. It's genuine vintage (36" wide), a gift from an AAUW friend some years ago. There's a yard remaining.
I used black thread to quilt serpentine lines through the center strings and at each block intersection.
Hooray for a finish! And now I'm just messing around . . .

What cute backing fabric! The caballero looks as though he's made from scissors.
ReplyDeleteDecades ago I picked up several yards of a fabric from a second-hand place. I was new to quilting and looking to build a stash. It depicts Cowboys and Indians, not at all in a PC-acceptable way you'd expect these days. I'm finding every excuse I can to hide it within other projects! Your fabric remains respectful of the culture it depicts.

Heh, at first I thought the last photo had been set to gray-scale to hide something (a potential gift, perhaps?) Then I noticed your ruler and cutting mat numbers (and floor--the longer I look at it, the more color I see). Congrats on the finish!

Nann, what a beautiful, colorful finish!!! I had to chuckle at the Saint Nick in time! And the vintage fabric--36" wide--definitely vintage!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous quilt, Nann - I love all the color! And the perfect backing, too. For a moment I thought your last photo was taken in black and white! I like those blocks!
