Guild winner!

The Northern Lake County Quilters Guild monthly meeting was Wednesday evening.  Four members provided demonstrations of techniques (fast folded hexagons, quilt as you go, paper piecing, and quilting with rulers -- the latter really appeals to me and I'll look for the Westalee templates at the Quilt Festival next week).

This year's guild BOM is a skill-builder. The coordinator posts a different Missouri Star block each month and participants make it in their choices of colorway and genre.  Those who bring completed blocks to the following meeting are entered into a drawing.  At Wednesday's meeting I was the winner -- four fat quarters, a pattern, a magazine, and notions.

But that was just the warmup!  Last night was the Initial Challenge reveal.  The challenge was to quilt your initials -- one for the block, two for the colors.  There were 18 entries (if I counted correctly) with creative interpretations of the theme.  Members voted for three categories: best use of color, best original design, best over all.  Cindy won best original design -- cerulean and ecru with star blocks (C.E.S.).  I won both best use of color and best over all!  (New York Beauty in eggplant and blue for N.E.B.)

Aren't the "ribbons" clever?  (And there was cash, too: $50 and $25!)

There was icing on the fabric cake. The table next to sign in was piled with fabric, free for the taking. I took.  28-1/8 yards of great vintage prints (some 36" wide, some 44" wide). Two were intended for garments.  All washed, ironed, and filed in my stash.
