Orphan adoption 2017: please pick these!

It's time for the 2017 quilty Orphan Adoption ! Thank you, Cynthia, for sponsoring this blog hop.

UPDATE:  there were 33 responses to this post at noon, CDT, 3/21 (per the stated rules). I asked my husband to pick a number between 1 and 33.  He said, "15."  That's Marianne.  I've notified her and as soon as I get her address I'll mail the blocks to her.  THANK YOU to all who left a comment.

I offer you a spring bouquet of 25 6.5" (unfin.) posy blocks.  The pattern is from Block Lotto and was selected as a Block Swappers' exchange.  I've used my swap proceeds in a couple of projects but now I'm in a clearing-out mood.

To qualify to win, follow these instructions:
A.  Leave a blog comment stating your favorite spring flower.  (Roses are not a spring flower. Nor are peonies or chrysanthemums.)
B.  Be sure there is a way for me to get your email address. (I cannot reply to "no-reply" commenters.)
C.  Enter by Tuesday, March 21, at 12:00 noon Central time.
C.  Follow instructions.   No spring flower, no email, posted after 12 noon CDT on 3/21 =  no entry
I will send to U.S. addresses only.

P.S. Skunk cabbage, so-called because there's a lot of stinky sulphur in the plant, is one of the earliest flowers to emerge from the leaf-litter in our woods.

  1. My favorite Spring flower is the Daffodil. Thank you so much for the chance to win these beautiful blocks. I have been wanting to make my daughter something pretty and these would be awesome to make her a quilt with.

  2. Hi Nann, my favorite is the crocus because it comes so early (tho this year we have to wait for 18" of snow to melt!). The posy blocks would be fun to use for a table topper to donate to the Library's Holiday Sale which helps pay for programs and museum passes. Thanks for offering them.

  3. My favorite spring flower is the hyacinth. Our winters are so long here in Michigan, so this transplanted southern girl's heart loves the little splash of purple that pops up encourages me that spring really is on the way! Thank you for offering these pretty blocks. They would make a great little girl quilt to be donated to the refugee organization I am connected with.

  6. I love hyacinths! We moved recently and I left behind a garden bed full of hyacinth bulbs I planted a few at a time over the years. I need to get some more this Easter to start a new collection! Thanks for the chance to win. I'd love to put these together for a Project Linus quilt.

  7. Hi Nann- my favorite flower for spring is Winter Aconite. A beautiful early flower, often before the crocus. These blocks would look great with a bunch of neutral 6.5" string blocks I have made. If I win these the top will be finished for HeartStings Quilt Project, which we both have been members of for years.

  8. I have a bunch of Japanese Lilies that bloom a lovely reddish/plum color in late spring. My church quilting group which makes quilts for a family homeless shelter in Iowa would definitely put your blocks to good use. sjvonfumetti at yahoo dot com

  9. My fav is crocus...the first one that pops up all over here.
If I won these would be made into a charity quilt (with some additions of my posy orphans) for Quilts Beyond Borders or Wrap-A-Smile - the two charities besides local ones where I send quilts.

  10. My favorite are the azaleas - so many colors early in Spring. Like others who have answered, these would be made into a quilt and given to "Comforters" a group within the Houston Guild for distributing quilts to various social service organizations.

  12. Hi Nann, from another Block Lotto player. I haven't won in ages, so would love even your leftovers!! I love my daffodils the best. I haven't see a skunk cabbage in decades, since I now live in the city, not the country. Thanks for sharing your winnings.

  14. Hi Nann, Do you think I have enough orphan blocks yet? I would love to win these to make a quilt for my favorite charity - the local homeless mission. Or a couple of them may appear in my Gypsy Wife quilt if I ever get started on it. I absolutely LOVE crocuses, but so do the deer, so unless they are hiding under a rhododendron, they get eaten. I also have several varieties of hellebores, which I love and which are right blooming now. Sharon - sjsauser@gmail.com

  15. Another Block Lotto player here and I'd love those blocks. They remind me of African violet flowers. My fav spring flower are purple crocuses. None of the traditional spring flowers, daffodils, tulips, crocus, grow where I live now. I miss them but not enough to move back north!

  16. My favorite spring flower is the pansy. I think these posies look like pansies. I would use them to make a lap quilt to donate to the local nursing home.

  18. Japanese magnolia! They are all over the place here, often the first flowers to show in the early spring. I have a great photo I took kseveral years ago of a friends JM buspds that I have always wanted to do up in an art quilt! Thanks!

  19. My favorite spring flower is the blood root which blooms early spring in the woodlands here in Minnesota. Although it blooms for a relatively short period, I love it because it is truly the herald of spring after many months of winter. I would use your beautiful posey blocks to make a charity quilt for our local law enforcement who keep them in their trunk to comfort a child that has been abused, parents taken to jail, etc.

  20. Last April my husband and I did some hiking in Tennessee and saw lots of gorgeous wildflowers. There were some that looked like miniature versions of an Iris and they were gorgeous. My new favorite! Love your flower blocks, they would be perfect for a charity quilt I have agreed to make that is to be appropriate for a child age 6 or older.

  29. My favorite spring flower is daffodils. Specifically the fragrant multicup narcissus type. Favorite variety is the poet type , white petals small yellow cup with a tiny red rim. Best email is sarahsgiftnship@gmail.com. We thought we were getting spring here in Connecticut but then we had 20" of snow on Tuesday. The daffodils will have to wait - Sigh!

  30. Since I'm a naturalist, my favorite spring flowers are the ephemerals that blossom on the forest floor before the trees leaf out and block the sun, of which skunk cabbage happens to be one!
