DWM: back in the studio

We had a mid-week chill so the quilt guild meeting was cancelled for the second month. That provided another evening to sew.

I finished all twenty blocks for "Not Afraid to Fly," the graduation commission I began a couple of weeks ago. Each of the 400 flying geese had to be trimmed.  I used 10 different white-on-white prints for the backgrounds (two blocks per WOW).  There are no repeats of oranges or blues.

I had to break my fabric fast to buy border and backing fabric.  I spent $41.48 for 6-1/4 yards and that was all! .  I began quilting it last evening. It's 58" x 70".

I made these four- and six-patch units as leaders-and-enders.  These will be the next 30's Bin Bust project.

This month's Block Lotto block is "Cupid's Arrow." Here are my entries (so far).

See what other quiltmakers are working on at Judy's Patchwork Times.

  1. Not Afraid to Fly looks great. I, too, have been buying a little. Just backing but I'm going to buy another because I didn't like the first color I got from the internet. The joys of internet shopping. I wanted burgundy but the fab looks too red to me. I think now I'm going to go for a beige fabric and get it done. I definitely want a fat batt. I hate piecing backings which I am doing now for another quilt. Sigh.

  2. I love Not Afraid To Fly! Using stash is such fun and when you need to buy fabric to finish the project off, that's fun too. Since starting leaders/enders, I'm lost without something next to me. Love doing 4 patches.
