Another finish Nine Patch and Blue

It's funny how a quilt with no destination and no deadline can come together quickly and without angst.  That's the case with "Nine Patch and Blue," which I began a week ago (October 17) and finished last evening.

Most of the 272 mini 9-patches (3" finished) came from the occasional exchanges of the online  Block Swappers.   The fabric for the setting, border, and back came from my stash.  The back is a vintage cheater pattern from the late 60's/early 70's-- 36" wide -- made by VIP, I think.  I did simple straight-line quilting.  The quilt is 88 x 88.

  1. I love the quilt. Nine patches are WONDERFUL and alway a favorite for me. The fabric is definitely late 60's. I had a quilt my mom patched using that very fabric. She used the leftovers to help me make a doll quilt...I was 6. Thanks for the memory...

  2. Absolutely, lovely, Nann! There is something about those older fabrics that certainly do give a quilt a truly 'vintage' look in a hurry and you backing fabric is perfect for that! At first glance, I thought...'wow, Nann really went all out..pieced the back, too!!'...then I read your words and my next ones were 'Woah..Nann, is one smart woman!'.

  6. It's gorgeous! I find the same thing...it's the quilts I have a deadline for or need to be finished for someone else that drag on. The ones I start just because I want to make them are the ones that go quickly.

  7. This is a splendid quilt! I have the dregs of a bolt of cheater fabric from the 70s. It has a LOT of brown in it and I've been using it as backings. Now I wish I had more.

  10. Why do we make ourselves crazy working on complicated patterns when the simple 9 patch makes such a wonderful quilt....and makes up quickly too?
