Guild Challenge: the big reveal!

The Birds of a Feather guild challenge quilts were revealed at last evening's meeting.  Participants were to create a quilt however they interpreted the topic -- birds? feathers? blocks? pictorial?  Maximum size was 144" perimeter -- that could be 36 x 36 or 70 x 2 (to be extreme!) or anything in between.

Someone baked and decorated bird-shaped sugar cookies for the potluck that preceded the business meeting.


There were 18 entries.  Members voted for their first, second, and third favorites.


First place:  Karen's magnificent thread painting is "The Eagle Has Landed."




Second place:  Leslie's flying geese appliqued on 544 tiny pieced flying geese.












Third place: Cindy's birds of a feather are fellow quilters, perched in a tree.





The interpretations were so imaginative!  Diane beaded the Chicago Blackhawks logo.   Debbie created "It's a Bird, It's a Plane" with airplanes -- Kittyhawk, Spruce Goose, Thunderbird, etc.   There were a pet cockatoo, a cardinal, and a rubber ducky.  A Zentangle was rendered in elaborate embellishment.  A feathered star surrounded a bluebird.

And mine?  Finally I can show you!   I used Lynne Tyler's pieced letters (Patchery Menagerie).
It's 29 x 38 so it just meets the size requirement.

I quilted Emily's "autograph" into the lower right corner.
