The Block Swappers host a Whatchagot Box swap every spring. You send one participant a box of quilt-related stuff you no longer love and can live without. In return another participant sends you a box. I sent fabric, blocks, patterns, and a few notions to Michelle in North Carolina. Poppet in Florida sent me this box filled with novelty prints. At 4 yards to a pound, it's 22 yards (coincidentally, that's the weight/yardage I sent to Michelle).
Cynthia is again hosting a Quilty Orphan Adoption. I'm offering these ten 9.5" (unf) nine-in-nine-patch blocks. I won them in the Block Lotto a couple of years ago. These ten were left over after I assembled a quilt top (this one).
[See other orphans on offer on Cynthia's blog: here ]
Follow these simple rules to qualify to win these blocks.
(1) Leave a reply stating what you like most about your public library.
(2) Get a bonus entry by stating how you support your public library. (Are you a trustee? a member of the Friends? a volunteer?)
(3) Be sure that I can contact you if you win. (I cannot reply to "no-reply.")
(4) I will ship to U.S. addresses only.
(5) Replies are due by midnight Central Time, Sunday, March 18, 2018.
(5) No comment about the library / no reply contact / non-U.S. / sent after March 18 = no entry.
I will draw the winner on Monday, March 19.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Oooh, Thanks for the opportunity to win your orphan blocks.
ReplyDeleteI use the Overdrive App on my iPad to check out audio books from the library. Having easy access to the audio books has increased my "reading," as I am averaging three/four books a week. I've helped several friends set up the App on their tablets and phones. When I travel, I listen to the books on my phone.
Normal Public Library is awesome because it has reciprocal privileges with Bloomington Public Library. As Twin Cities, that makes it like 2 for the price of one!
ReplyDeleteKathleen Schwitzner - we are friends on Facebook too!
I have those same blocks in solids somewhere in my sewing room. Those will make a great start to a pretty quilt. It looks like they will definitely find a new home. Thanks for participating in the event!
ReplyDeleteI moved a few months ago and the differences in libraries is amazing. What I like best about the new one is the staff. Everyone is helpful, engaged, friendly, patient. They have assisted with everything from helping me locate books (the first library I have seen not using the Dewey decimal system), finding my new voting location, recommending books and more. The new library has services ranging from homework rooms, conference rooms, educational programs for all ages, puzzles and activity kits to check out along with books and DVDs. There’s even vending machines and phone charging stations in the lobby- no excuse to leave too early. Interesting to see the replies!

My local library has been so helpful for children. My sons and grandsons have enjoyed the library services that include a summer reading program, preschool program and an excellent children's section. I like their updated internet access and the many new book reviews.

I support my local library by donating books and magazines to their used book department. The library welcomes these donations.

I've always wanted to make a Double 9-Patch quilt! My evening Quilt Bee meets monthly at our local library. We love their large meeting room for laying out quilts. I support out library by purchasing books from the Friends of the Library section instead of checking out books (and paying overdue fines!)
ReplyDeleteI would love to win these blocks. I use the Overdrive App; also donated a bunch of books since I read on my reader most of the time now. Our guild meets at the library monthly. Our library has also had a mini quilt show hanging some of our quilts.
ReplyDeleteI love using their printer services. Sometimes works no on their desktops is easier for me too. I support the library by donating books for their sales.
ReplyDeleteOH, Nann. As a fellow Block Lotto participant, I always love to see what is done with them. Your quilt is great. I'd love to take your leftover blocks for a lap quilt for a senior in my mom's retirement community. I love my local library because it has a large collection of Chinese books for those immigrants in our community.
ReplyDeleteI help with the library's book drive fund raiser by donating a lot of books and then purchasing a lot at the book sale.
ReplyDeleteChecking out audiobooks with the overdrive ap is my favorite
ReplyDeleteI’ve been a friend of the library in the past and volunteered with fundraising events in the past.
ReplyDeleteWe are at our library quite frequently. My boys are avid readers and we enjoy the nice movie selection. One of my sons participates in a youth writers club as well. Like I said, we're there a lot!
ReplyDeleteMy local branch is part of a larger library system with quite a few locations throughout my county. You can make a request for a book that your closest location doesn't carry and they will send it in from another location for you.
ReplyDeleteAt any one time, I always have numerous books signed out from the library. My system is so quick getting books from participating libraries. I donate books to the ongoing book sale, and I used to be on a volunteer board to raise additional funds for the library. And....I'm also an elementary school librarian...Books and quilting, what could be better? Oh, and baskets, counted cross stitch, gardening, cooking...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the year round library is on a main road and is easy to get to as well as having 6 public computers with internet access. I send a check every year to the fund raising drive.
ReplyDeleteI'm saucier favorite nine patch blocks and those are lovely!
ReplyDeleteOur local library is great! From helpful friendly staff to the extent of their collection I can't sing their praises enough! I'm a long time member of the Friends of the Library and a frequent donor to the book sales held four times a year.
Since I have a degree in Early Childhood, I love the Children's area of the library. Even now that I'm retired, I browse through their latest books to find the newest authors and subjects. So I guess I really am glad that our local library and those that I've visited have an area devoted for children's books with itty bitty chairs. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI support my library by attending their annual book sale by purchasing lots of books so that my donation can be used for more books and programs. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI love our local library. My son and I go there at least once per week during the school year. They call us their favorite "circs". I love to order things online. The items come from other libraries and we pick them up locally. I also love the "Search Ohio" button on the local library website. If there is a book that I want to borrow but our local library doesn't have it, they get it from other participating libraries in Ohio and have it delivered to ours FOR FREE!!! We support the quarterly book sale. We attend kids' activities such as story time, summer reading programs, and contests. My son (almost 11 years old) LOVES to check out his own books with the self-checkout machine.
ReplyDeleteI made two of the Block Lotto blocks that you have up for the drawing. They are the two with the big black spots on the outsides in the same row. The spots look like bugs, but to me they look like Campbell Soup kids on the print doing some sort of activity. Thanks for the chance to win. Shahann@yahoo.com
I love my local library, first off because I can not own every book, but I can sure borrow them :) I also love the digital book collection they have, that I am constantly renting through them. Thank you for the opportunity for winning these awesome blocks!
