Saturday morning I participated in the World's Largest Polio Walk with Rotarians and friends from my club and the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Club. One mile from the Lake Bluff park to Lake Forest High School and one mile back was no problem in the golden autumn sunshine.
The Rotary initiative to end polio began in 1985. Polio has been reduced by 99.9%. The wild virus is endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Walk in the Park was pinned to the design wall while I was gone. When I couldn't sleep I contemplated how I would quilt it. Once home I went from contemplating to doing. Here it is!
I used the walking foot to quilt the center panel. I free-motioned the side panels.
Just about anything would have worked for the back. These are cut-offs from leftover wide-back fabric.
60 x 78, 6-1/4 yards total.
Main Street is the Running Doe top-along pattern for October. I chose the background first and my stash easily came up with the coordinating prints. That background is an "I can't cut it!" that I got in New Hampshire in 2021. There's more than a yard left. The flimsy is 45 x 54. (It would be interesting to set the blocks on point....)

I want to hang the two small paintings I bought in Morocco before they get consigned to the souvenir closet. I didn't have any suitable frames (either empty or with art that I could swap out) so I went to several thrift shops on Saturday afternoon. I found frames that will work.
Look what else came home with me!A Singer 301A long bed with attachments and manual. She has the bobbin case but no extra bobbins (I've got bobbins). Last serviced in 2018 (report included) so with a few drops of oil she will be ready to go. The carrying case is a little battered but for $100 !!!! I'll manage.
I looked up the serial number: 1953, Anderson, SC.
Her name is Lucy. That means "light." (Latin "lux.") My beloved 301A tan short bed is Sweetness, so now I have Sweetness and Lucy (sweetness and light).
The thrift shop also had all this Aurifil 28wt thread for **$2** per spool. (Retail $15.) That's heavier than the orange-spool Aurifil (50wt). I bought a spool to experiment. It works just fine. I will return to the thrift shop today.Linking up with Design Wall Monday Oh Scrap! Monday Musings

You had some amazing thrift shop finds! I actually have a QOV kit cut out for that same pattern (Main Street) only the 3-yard book calls it Wave. It's on my November goal list. I'm looking forward to seeing the paintings you bought in Morocco.
ReplyDeleteI remember participating in the Purple Pinkie project when I was teaching. The kids (who were able to) and I brought a dollar and the Rotarians gave us each a purple pinkie! Beautiful quilts, Nann, and great finds at the thrift shop, too!

ReplyDeleteThere are so many other things to do in daylight. My quilting time is evening too. I get more done in the winter because there are more dark hours.
