DWM: Winnings, and a finish

"Hope of Hartford" was the NLCQG block-of-the-month for October. The center and the background fabrics were supplied.  They're 12-1/2" (unfinished).   I won half the blocks -- here they are. I'm not sure how I'll set them, but I know to wait a month or two because it is likely that a few more blocks will be turned in later.

This year the BOM has had a different 12" star block each month.  Participants are invited to make samplers in colorways of their own choosing. I've saved the patterns in case I'd like to give that a try.

Here is this weekend's finish.  The scrappy hearts were a Block Swapper's exchange.  I set them and added a white border (see here ). When I pulled the flimsy out of the box I thought that the  all-white border was rather boring. I tried a matchstick border (red with white tips) but that had too much red.  In the end, I made a checkerboard which turned out just right. I quilted hearts in the hearts, meandering in the background, and more "almost feathers" in the border.  The finished quilt is 48 x 54.

See what other quiltmakers have on their design walls at Judy's Patchwork Times.

  2. I totally agree that the checkerboard is perfect! The BOM blocks are a dark moody lot, aren't they? I'll be interested in what you'll do with them.

  4. I see a fall table runner with three or four of the star blocks with the others being placemats (this could be because I need to make a fall table runner for our house). Love the heart quilt and the border is perfect.

  5. What is NLCQG and DWM? Every time I check out your blog I find these
acronyms. Since I have no idea what you're referring to, I spend a very shot time looking. Can't you at least identify some of them?

    1. Pauline... DWM stands for Design Wall Monday, and the NLCQG is N ---- L --- C--- Quilt Guild. Don't know what the NLCQG part stands for! :)

  12. Woo woo on the hearts finished. I like the checkerboard border you put on it. For you bom blocks you won try to get your hands on the book Circle of Nine. It shows several ways to set blocks. Those would work wonderfully with their scheme.

  14. I am a big fan of checkerboard borders--I think they're ALWAYS worth the effort and yours looks great. I also love both blocks ... which you might guess because they've both been choices for the block lotto in the past ... I think we've made the Hope of Hartford blocks twice.
