Weekly update: Wildflowers, Bunco, and placemats

Two walks in two days!  Lake Carina on Saturday (lower left) and the south unit of Illinois Beach State Park on Sunday.  Upper left: crabapple. Upper right: hoary puccoon (which sounds like a Shakespearean insult). Center; Sand cherry.

But before that:  Zion Woman's Club spring Bunco was Friday evening.  We've done this for 10+ years and have a group of regulars.  Though fewer people came than last fall the preliminary income is $1402 (thanks to club members who aren't asking for expense reimbursement).

There are four raffles:  50/50 cash, a gift card tree ($195 value), a spring gift basket, and a quilt.  Here is the winner with me and Carolina Chain.

In the studio:  I'm caught up with RSC.

11 placemats finished out of the 24 for my May OMG.

  1. So glad you were able to get in a couple of walks. The weather here has been really beautiful. Good luck with your stitching for the week, you are one of the most productive quilters I know.

  3. HAHAHAHA to the "hoary puccoon" Shakespearean insult. I love your sense of humor, Nann! It's wonderful to see you in the photos this week. Your RSC is looking great, too!

  4. Looks like two nice walking days, and that the bunco night went well! Love those RSC strippies, too - that is a great idea for scraps. Happy sewing this week!

  6. Alas no outdoor walks for me because the RC insists on coming along and he falls so easily so it's not wise. If he ever fell on one of the trails I'd never be able to get him up.

  7. Hoary pucoon dragged out an old memory - I was helping a roommate study for a field botany class or something along those lines. Summer classes at a rural campus from the big university. She had a car, so my job was to quiz her while we drove into town for groceries (it was a bit of a drive) and for some reason I remember Hoary Puccoon and his Big Blue Ox. I have no idea how we got that from Paul Bunyan, but if it helped her pass the test, it worked! I'd never seen it before (I was taking different classes and doing independent research), but now I'm even more confused about our study techniques! Good memories!

  8. The Carolina chain was a nice choice for the raffle and I bet the winner was happy to get it.
You have a great start on the placemats.
Yesterday was such a nice warm day and today, wet and cold.
