On Monday I drove 75 miles west to Rockford for an overdue (get the library joke?) visit to my long-time friend Lynn. She's the executive director of the Rockford Public Library Her creativity, vision, and hard work for more than a decade resulted in the award-winning Main Library that opened last year.
Lots of natural light. Flexible furnishings. |
When Lynn retires later this summer she'll move to this area to be closer to her grandchildren and their parents. That will be closer to me, too, and we hope to get together more often.

Next time I'll be prepared to wade!

In the studio: blocks finished, almost finished with the rows.
My evening sewing is accompanied by binge-watching Outlander. Seasons 1-6 are on Netflix. I signed up for Starz to get Season 7. I loved the books and though I read/listened to them long ago I recalled the story right away. I am forgiving historical inaccuracies because, ohhhh, Jamie! (I have four episodes left of Season 7. Season 8 will come out next year.)
We're getting badly-needed rain today. I'm helping at an outdoor event today--I'll take my raincoat!

The heat makes it hard to want to get out and about, so good for you for getting the errands run. Your scrappy quilt is coming together beautifully. Enjoy your show, I've been trying to find some new ones to binge watch.
ReplyDeleteAre the blocks randomly placed, or were you planning an intentional zig-zag of the blue? This one really calls to me and my overflowing 2.5", 2", and 1.5" bins of squares!

That looks like a wonderful library! Beautiful view of the water, too. A little wading would definitely cool you down! I just love that quilt design - like your previous commenter, it's calling to me. Do you have an idea how much background (blue) fabric would be needed?
ReplyDeletewhat fun to check out an *overdue* item on your list haha!! Love your humor! the quilt rows are super pretty! stay cool!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun that your friend will soon be moving near by! Great way to use up your scraps. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

so nice your friend is moving closer later this year...another nice scrappy....i started outlander but seemed to me to be just a bodice ripper so bailed after a few episodes...i tend to avoid those series that jump around time....bad storm here today with tornado close by and 90s and 100s coming for the next 7-8 days or so....yeeech!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Lynn for that a beautiful library. I would especially appreciate the natural light. (Our local library, new a few years ago, feels like a dungeon or a cave when I walk in, with its arched ceiling and few lights. It has lots of windows but not near the doors.)
ReplyDeleteHow great to have another friend living nearby.
The water looks so inviting.
Do you know what blue fabric you used for the quilt in the last photo? I think it adds great unity to the variety of blocks in the quilt.
I hope you were able to stay dry yesterday.
I love visiting libraries as we travel - so much variety! Wading sounds like a good idea - next week we are expecting to be in the upper 90s/lower 100s for the first time this summer and it sounds dreadful!

That library looks impressive! Much as I loved the books, I can't seem to watch Outlander because the actor that plays Jamie is just not the image I had in mind of what he looks like. Stupid, really, to be that hung up on a mental image.
